Are too many calories bad for you?
Depending on our age, sex, type of work and physical activity, we all have our own basic daily calorie requirment. So, saying that you want a 2,000 calorie diet and that you’ll live and die by this number is absolutely stupid. You are starving yourself. How is a person who is very active going to live on 2,000 calories? He’d most certainly end up looking like those dying skinny kids in the 3rd world countries.

My opinion is that those numbers are cooked up by people who are so focused on weight targets, that they are blinded by it. C’mon, having a 3,000 calories a day intake can’t possibly kill you right?. But these people might want to make you believe that it would.

Of course it would be foolish to throw all of this stuff to the wind. What you should do is to take it with a grain of salt. There’s no reason to despair whenever you exceed your target by a few hundred or even a thousand, but of course not by much more than that like 5,000. However, some people do need to be mindful of the exact numbers. People who are on a diet because of heart problems for example, should be very focused on their diet. Same for people with sugar problems as well.

For the rest of us, if you don't have major health problems, don’t get too bent out of shape over your diet, unless you’re eating from the drive through lane every day, then you might really have a problem. Common sense is what I’m talking about, and understand where your calories are coming from. When you’re eating 3,500 calories and they are mostly from things that are good for you, don't go ape shit on yourself. If on the other hand if it is all from candy and deep fried foods, DO get ape shitty..

Your concern should be about where those calories are coming from. If your 1,500 calories are comingfrom fruits and veggies alone, then that’s better than getting 1,500 calories in fat. It’s not the same really. Some of you will argue with that. But it isn't the same because the calories are coming from a good source. They are coming from things that are good for you. The fruits and veggies will help you out in many ways. They will also help you fight off cancer and heart disease. That’s why it isn't the same as if you are over eating on fats and sweets.

Well, that’s all I know and I’ve stated it all above. If you are eating over 2,000 calories and you are eating things that are good for you, Don’t be too concerned. The best advice I can give you is to always talk to your Doctor before you go and do something new. You might have a health condition that will require you to go on a diet that he tells you to go on.

So if you’re healthy, you should make raw fruits and veggies the base of your diet. That’s where the action is and that’s where you’ll get the most bang for your calorie. Happy eating !
