How to stick to your fitness target and stay fit and healthy
Things don’t get worse than when you fail to shape up your body despite trying hard for it, especially after you mustered the courage to start on a fitness program and cranked up your willpower to stick to it. Unfortunately, more than half of the people who take up a fitness program do so on a whim and drop out within the first six months. Busy schedules, boredom at the routine, and mistaken sense of achievement from initial fitness improvements all eventually lessen peoples’ commitment to their exercise plan..
In order to avoid being a failure, you first need to set goals for yourself. If you want to be thinner, then decide on a number of pounds you want to shed. If you want to be able to run around the park without spitting your lungs on the sidewalk, then tell yourself how many rounds you want to be able to run as your target. Set a clear goal so you can chart your own progress. Make sure it’s a realistic one though. Dropping 1 pound per week through a combination of reduced intake of calories and increased physical effort is a realistic goal. Shedding 50 pounds in two months is not just a dream, but the attempt may also prove dangerous for your health.
Once your goals are set, make sure you keeping track of your progress. This will keep your motivation going because you will be able to visualize your success at whatever it is you’re doing. But bear in mind that tracking should also be moderated carefully. You don’t need to weigh yourself every day if you’re trying to lose weight. Body weight fluctuates naturally from one day to the other and depends on many factors. Doing that may cause you discouragement easily and could cause you to abandon your program just because two extra glasses of water have messed up your weight.
Vary your fitness schedule as much as possible. Doing the same thing over and over becomes tedious sooner or later and only hardcore bodybuilders won’t get bored. Do mix your exercises and change their order every week or when you start getting bored with them. Don’t allow yourself to get frustrated with your routine. If you can’t come up with a good plan, ask a gym trainer or a veteran to help you out.
Finally, do find someone to share your fitness quest with. Get a friend to go to the gym together. You can help each other achieve your goals and share your successes and failures in between your reps. A workout partner with a positive attitude can really motivate you and and you can provide motivation for him in return.
