Are these 10 common food and health tips myths or fact? Find out...

There are myths about food and there are myths about sex. These myths are usually the most abundant of all myths. Not surprising since they concern two of our basic human needs. Are these common sayings myths or fact? Find out...

  1. Our food supply is always safe - myth
All you need to do is pick up a newspaper and see that for yourself how often someone somewhere gets sick from eating food contaminated with E Coli or some other bacteria.

  2. Preservatives are bad for you - myth
They really aren't because they are what keeps you from getting sick. If it weren't for their use, many people would get sick and die from eating food gone prematurely bad.

  3. Coffee can cure your hang over - myth
It can't. Caffeine can't cure a hang over. Hangovers happen because you are lacking water. Consuming alcohol takes a big chunk of the water from your system. Caffeine actually makes you urinate, so it actually has the opposite effect.

  4. It is okay to eat fast - myth
The less you chew your food, the more your stomach will have to work to digest it. Our teeth are shaped for different tasks like cutting and grinding. Why not make the most out of them to help your own digestion? That’s also why it’s important to take good care of your own teeth.

  5. Beans cause gas - fact.
They are high in fiber. Things that are high in fiber do actually cause gas. Others like corn and peppers also cause gas. To take away some of the gas soaking the beans before you cook them, it won't take all of it though.

  6. Carrots improve your eye sight - myth
They don't. They do however, make your eyes healthy. That may sound like it contradicts its self, but it doesn't. They don't improve your eyesight, but they do help you maintain your current ability to see.

  7. Swallowing gum gives you stomach problems - fact.
It can cause gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If you are chewing gum that has sorbitol, that could be causing problems too. Oddly enough, this substance is also found in semen.

  8. Cherries relieve pain - fact.
People who eat at least 20 tart cherries a day have a reduction in pain from arthritis.

  9. Parsley take away bad breath - fact.
So does other green leafy veggies that contain chlorophyll.

  10. An apple a day keep the doctor away - fact.
There are many good things about apples. They help reduce the risk of cancer. They also help lower cholesterol. Who says that old sayings aren't true?
